भारतीय संस्कृति, धर्म तथा अध्यात्मिकता एक सुव्यवस्थित लक्ष्य, तत्वज्ञान, दिशा तथा राजनीति का प्रतिपादन करती रही है। उसी प्रकाश में भारतीय समाज एक प्रक्रिया अपनाकर अग्रगामी हो सका। एक ईश्वर, एक उपासना, एक आचार, एक विचार, एक समाज, एक निष्ठा यहां की विशेषता रही है।

ऋषियों ने भारतीय संस्कृति को एकता, एकरूपता, एक निष्ठा के रूप में गढ़ा था। वही अपनी उपास्य रही और सारा भारतीय समाज एकरूपता के सूत्र में बंधा हुआ चिरकाल तक अत्यंत सुदृढ़, समर्थ और सुविकसित बना रहा। बिखराव और अलगाव ने की दुष्टप्रवृत्तियां निहित स्वार्थों द्वारा जब से फैलानी आरंभ की गई तभी से अपनी सर्वतोमुखी दुर्बलता आरंभ हो गई और आज हम दयनीय दुर्दशा में पड़े हुए हैं।

मुसलमान, ईसाई, बौद्ध, पारसी कोई भी धर्म ऐसा नहीं मिलेगा, जिसमें एक निर्देश, एक अनुशासन, एक मान्यता, एक विचारणा, और एक उपासना न हो। इसके बिना समाज का जीवित रहना ही असंभव है। अपना अभागा हिंदू समाज ही है, जिसके अंतर्गत अगणित वर्ग, देवता, निर्देश, आचार-विचार फैले और वही दयनीय दुर्दशा भुगतनी पड़ी, जो विश्व्श्रृंखलित समाजों को भुगतनी पड़ती है।
समय की मांग है कि बिलगाववादी मान्यता के पीछे छिपी विभीषिकाओं को हटाने और एकता, एकरूपता स्थापित करने के लिए एकजुट काम किया जाए। अपनी संस्कृति और असमर्थता इसी प्रकार विकासोन्मुख बन सकेगी।
